Lessons Along the Path

@Houston's Cockrell Butterfly Center, by L. Kolp

Circuitous, the path we followed
through the humid butterfly
center, winding down
from top story
to bottom.
Along the way, we
paused and watched
the butterflies swarming
around us, hoping one
might land on our shoulder.
Concrete benches amidst
the greenery called us
to rest awhile.
Beside me, a butterfly
landed, its transparency
among the color
breathtaking.

nice play on the transparency there in the end...we need to learn about ourselves when we need to stop...and rest...along the path

The flight of the butterfly no one knows where it will lead and what it carries. Lovely poem and so heart felt.

Butterfly centers are lovely places. It is a pleasure to see them flutter around and feel them as they land softly on your arm or hand.

You have really captured the butterfly center through your words. Our museum has a very small one, but I really like walking through it....ever hopeful that a butterfly will land on me! Each one is unique in 'its transparency.'

A path full of butterflies, colours and transparency... How wonderful a memory it must describe. This was a marvellous poem to read, Laurie.

Lovely! I love visiting those butterfly displays with the beautiful colors flittering around us. And your poem gave it deeper meaning. Love the photo too.

There is something soothing about butterflies as they flutter around us. I had one land on me about a week ago and I was caught in the moment.
